Mark 16
16
Jesus Rises from the Dead
1The day after the Sabbath day, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought some sweet-smelling spices to put on Jesus’ body. 2Very early on that day, the first day of the week, soon after sunrise, the women were on their way to the tomb. 3They said to each other, “Who will roll away for us the stone that covers the entrance of the tomb?”
4Then the women looked and saw that the stone had already been rolled away, even though it was very large. 5The women entered the tomb and saw a young man wearing a white robe and sitting on the right side, and they were afraid.
6But the man said, “Don’t be afraid. You are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who has been crucified. He has risen from the dead; he is not here. Look, here is the place they laid him. 7Now go and tell his followers and Peter, ‘Jesus is going into Galilee ahead of you, and you will see him there as he told you before.’ ”
8The women were confused and shaking with fear, so they left the tomb and ran away. They did not tell anyone about what happened, because they were afraid.

Some Followers See Jesus
[9After Jesus rose from the dead early on the first day of the week, he showed himself first to Mary Magdalene. One time in the past, he had forced seven demons out of her. 10After Mary saw Jesus, she went and told his followers, who were very sad and were crying. 11But Mary told them that Jesus was alive. She said that she had seen him, but the followers did not believe her.
12Later, Jesus showed himself to two of his followers while they were walking in the country, but he did not look the same as before. 13These followers went back to the others and told them what had happened, but again, the followers did not believe them.
Jesus Talks to the Apostles
14Later Jesus showed himself to the eleven apostles while they were eating, and he criticized them because they had no faith. They were stubborn and refused to believe those who had seen him after he had risen from the dead.
15Jesus said to his followers, “Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone. 16Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved, but anyone who does not believe will be punished. 17And those who believe will be able to do these things as proof: They will use my name to force out demons. They will speak in new languages. 18They will pick up snakes and drink poison without being hurt. They will touch the sick, and the sick will be healed.”
19After the Lord Jesus said these things to his followers, he was carried up into heaven, and he sat at the right side of God. 20The followers went everywhere in the world and told the Good News to people, and the Lord helped them. The Lord proved that the Good News they told was true by giving them power to work miracles.]

1Now #Matt. 28:1–8; Luke 24:1–10; John 20:1–8when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome #Luke 23:56; John 19:39bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. 2#Luke 24:1; John 20:1Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” 4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. 5#Luke 24:3; John 20:11, 12And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
6#Ps. 16:10; 49:15; Hos. 6:2; Matt. 28:6; Mark 9:31; Luke 24:6But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. 7But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, #Matt. 26:32; 28:16, 17; Mark 14:28as He said to you.”

9Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, #Luke 8:2out of whom He had cast seven demons. 10#Luke 24:10She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. 11#Matt. 28:17; Luke 24:11, 41; John 20:25And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.

12After that, He appeared in another form #Luke 24:13–35to two of them as they walked and went into the country. 13And they went and told it to the rest, but they did not believe them either.
The Great Commission
14#Luke 24:36; John 20:19, 26; 1 Cor. 15:5Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15#Matt. 28:19; (John 15:16; Acts 1:8); Col. 1:6And He said to them, “Go into all the world #(Col. 1:23)and preach the gospel to every creature. 16#(John 3:18, 36; Acts 2:38; 16:30, 31; Rom. 10:8–10)He who believes and is baptized will be saved; #(John 12:48)but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17And these #Acts 5:12signs will follow those who believe: #Mark 9:38; Luke 10:17; Acts 5:16; 8:7; 16:18; 19:12In My name they will cast out demons; #(Acts 2:4; 1 Cor. 12:10)they will speak with new tongues; 18#(Luke 10:19); Acts 28:3–6they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; #(Acts 5:15); James 5:14they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Christ Ascends to God’s Right Hand
19So then, #Acts 1:2, 3after the Lord had spoken to them, He was #Ps. 68:18; Luke 9:51; 24:51; John 6:62; 20:17; Acts 1:2, 9–11; (1 Tim. 3:16; Rev. 4:2)received up into heaven, and #(Ps. 110:1); Luke 22:69; (Acts 7:55); 1 Pet. 3:22sat down at the right hand of God. 20And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them #Acts 5:12; (1 Cor. 2:4, 5; Heb. 2:4)and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.
