Colossians 3

Your New Life in Christ
1Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. 2Think only about the things in heaven, not the things on earth. 3Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God. 4Christ is your life, and when he comes again, you will share in his glory.
5So put all evil things out of your life: sexual sinning, doing evil, letting evil thoughts control you, wanting things that are evil, and greed. This is really serving a false god. 6These things make God angry. 7In your past, evil life you also did these things.
8But now also put these things out of your life: anger, bad temper, doing or saying things to hurt others, and using evil words when you talk. 9Do not lie to each other. You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before. 10You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God. 11In the new life there is no difference between Greeks and Jews, those who are circumcised and those who are not circumcised, or people who are foreigners, or Scythians. There is no difference between slaves and free people. But Christ is in all believers, and Christ is all that is important.
12God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So you should always clothe yourselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13Bear with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you. 14Even more than all this, clothe yourself in love. Love is what holds you all together in perfect unity. 15Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking, because you were all called together in one body to have peace. Always be thankful. 16Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and instruct each other by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.
Your New Life with Other People
18Wives, yield to the authority of your husbands, because this is the right thing to do in the Lord.
19Husbands, love your wives and be gentle with them.
20Children, obey your parents in all things, because this pleases the Lord.
21Fathers, do not nag your children. If you are too hard to please, they may want to stop trying.
22Slaves, obey your masters in all things. Do not obey just when they are watching you, to gain their favor, but serve them honestly, because you respect the Lord. 23In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people. 24Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, which he promised to his people. You are serving the Lord Christ. 25But remember that anyone who does wrong will be punished for that wrong, and the Lord treats everyone the same.

Not Carnality but Christ
1If then you were #Rom. 6:5; Eph. 2:6; Col. 2:12raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, #Ps. 68:18; 110:1; (Rom. 8:34); Eph. 1:20where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind on things above, not on things on the #(Matt. 6:19–21)earth. 3#(Rom. 6:2; 2 Cor. 5:14; Gal. 2:20); Col. 2:20For you died, #(2 Cor. 5:7)and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4#(1 John 3:2)When Christ who is #John 14:6our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in #1 Cor. 15:43glory.
5#(Rom. 8:13)Therefore put to death #(Rom. 6:13)your members which are on the earth: #Eph. 5:3fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, #Mark 7:21; 1 Cor. 6:9, 18; 2 Cor. 12:21; Gal. 5:19; Eph. 4:19; 5:3, 5which is idolatry. 6#Rom. 1:18; Eph. 5:6; Rev. 22:15Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon #(Eph. 2:2)the sons of disobedience, 7#1 Cor. 6:11; (Eph. 2:2); Titus 3:3in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
8#Eph. 4:22; 1 Pet. 2:1But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10and have put on the new man who #Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 4:16is renewed in knowledge #(Rom. 8:29)according to the image of Him who #(Eph. 2:10)created him, 11where there is neither #Rom. 10:12; (1 Cor. 12:13); Gal. 3:27, 28Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, #Eph. 1:23but Christ is all and in all.
Character of the New Man
12Therefore, #(1 Pet. 1:2)as the elect of God, holy and beloved, #Luke 1:78; Phil. 2:1; 1 John 3:17put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13#(Mark 11:25)bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14#1 Pet. 4:8But above all these things #(1 Cor. 13)put on love, which is the #Eph. 4:3bond of perfection. 15And let #(John 14:27; Phil. 4:7)the peace of God rule in your hearts, #1 Cor. 7:15to which also you were called #Eph. 4:4in one body; and #(1 Thess. 5:18)be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another #Eph. 5:19in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17And #1 Cor. 10:31whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
