The Prayer of Jesus
1These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. 6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Jesus Prays to be Glorified
1 Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven he said, “Father, the hour has come! Glorify your Son, in order that your Son may glorify you—2just as you have given him authority over all flesh, in order that he would give eternal life to them—everyone whom you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have glorified you on earth by#*Here “by” is supplied as a component of the participle (“completing”) which is understood as means completing the work that you have given me to do.#Literally “that I may do it” 5And now, Father, you glorify me at your side#Literally “by the side of yourself” with the glory that I had at your side#Literally “by the side of you” before the world existed.
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6“I have revealed your name to the men whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me, and they have kept your word. 7Now they understand that all the things that#Literally “whatever” you have given me are from you, 8because the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they received them#*Here the direct object is supplied from context in the English translation and know truly that I have come from you, and they have believed that you have sent me. 9I am asking on behalf of them. I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you have given me, because they are yours, 10and all my things are yours, and your things are mine, and I have been glorified in#Or “by”; or “through” them. 11And I am no longer in the world, and they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given to me, so that they may be one, just as we are. 12When I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given to me, and guarded them,#*Here the direct object is supplied from context in the English translation and none of them has perished except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture would be fulfilled. 13And now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in themselves. 14I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world. 15I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one. 16They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17Sanctify them in the truth—your word is truth. 18Just as you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19And for them I sanctify myself, so that they themselves also may be sanctified in the truth.
Jesus Prays for the Unity of Believers
20“And I do not ask on behalf of these only, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their word, 21that they all may be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, that they also may be in us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me. 22And the glory that you have given to me, I have given to them, in order that they may be one, just as we are one—23I in them, and you in me, in order that they may be completed in one, so that the world may know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me.
24“Father, those whom you have given to me—I want that those also may be with me where I am, in order that they may see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25Righteous Father, although the world does not know you, yet I have known you, and these men have come to know that you sent me. 26And I made known to them your name, and will make it#*Here the direct object is supplied from context in the English translation known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I may be in them.”
