Hebrews 10
10
1For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith,
Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not,
But a body hast thou prepared me:
6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7Then said I, Lo, I come
(In the volume of the book it is written of me,)
To do thy will, O God.
8Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
16This is the covenant that I will make with them
After those days, saith the Lord,
I will put my laws into their hearts,
And in their minds will I write them;
17And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Draw Near in Faith
19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21and having an high priest over the house of God; 22let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; 33partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. 34For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. 35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
37For yet a little while,
And he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38Now the just shall live by faith:
But if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Christ’s Permanent Sacrifice
1For the law is a shadow of the good things to come, # Heb 8:5; 9:11 and not the very image of those things. It could never by the same sacrifices, which they offer continually year after year, perfect those who draw near. 2Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshippers, once purified, would no longer be conscious of sins? 3But in those sacrifices there is an annual reminder of sins. # Heb 9:7 4For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. # Heb 10:11
5Therefore, when He came into the world, # Heb 1:6 He said:
“Sacrifices and offerings You did not desire,
but a body You have prepared for Me. # 1Pe 2:24
6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You have had no pleasure.
7Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God,’ as it is written of Me
in the volume of the book.” # Ps 40:6–8 # 10:5–7 Ps 40:6–8.
8Previously when He said, “You did not desire sacrifices and offerings. You have had no pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin,” # Heb 10:5 # 10:8 Ps 40:6. which are offered in accordance with the law, 9then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” # Heb 10:7 # 10:9 Ps 40:8. He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10By this will we have been sanctified # Jn 17:19; Heb 2:11 through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11But every priest stands daily ministering and repetitively offering the same sacrifices, # Heb 5:1 which can never take away sins. # Heb 10:4 12But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. # Heb 1:3 13Since that time He has been waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool. # Ps 110:1; Heb 1:13 14For by one offering He has forever perfected those who are sanctified. # Heb 10:1
15The Holy Spirit also witnesses to us about this. # Heb 3:7 For after saying,
16“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws into their hearts,
and in their minds I will write them,” # Jer 31:33; Ro 11:27 # 10:16 Jer 31:33.
17then He adds,
“Their sins and lawless deeds
will I remember no more.” # Jer 31:34; Heb 8:12 # 10:17 Jer 31:34.
18Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
Persevering in the Faith
19Therefore, brothers, we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, # Eph 2:18; Heb 4:16 20by a new and living way that He has opened for us through the veil, # Jn 10:9; Heb 9:3 that is to say, His flesh, 21and since we have a High Priest over the house of God, # 1Ti 3:15; Heb 2:17 22let us draw near # Heb 7:19 with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse them from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. # Eze 36:25; 1Co 6:11 23Let us firmly hold the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. # 1Co 1:9; Heb 3:6 24And let us consider how to spur one another to love and to good works. # Titus 3:8; Heb 13:1 25Let us not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, # Ac 2:42 as is the manner of some, but let us exhort one another, especially as you see the Day approaching. # Heb 3:13
26For if we willfully continue to sin after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, # Dt 17:12; Heb 6:4–6 27but a fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which will devour the adversaries. # Isa 26:11; Eze 36:5 28Anyone who despised Moses’ law died without mercy in the presence of two or three witnesses. # Dt 19:15; Heb 2:2 29How much more severe a punishment do you suppose he deserves, who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded the blood of the covenant that sanctified him to be a common thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? # Eph 4:30; Heb 2:3 30For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine,” says the Lord, “I will repay.” # Ro 12:19 # 10:30 Dt 32:35. And again He says, “The Lord will judge His people.” # Dt 32:35–36; Ps 135:14 # 10:30 Dt 32:36. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. # Isa 33:14; Lk 12:5
32Remember the former days, after you were enlightened, # Heb 6:4 in which you endured a great struggle of afflictions. # Php 1:29–30 33In part you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and afflictions. # 1Co 4:9 And in part you became companions of those who were so abused. # Php 4:14 34For you had compassion on me in my chains # 2Ti 1:16 and joyfully endured the confiscation of your property, knowing that you have in heaven a better and an enduring possession for yourselves. # 1Pe 1:4 35Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which will be greatly rewarded. # Heb 11:26
36For you need patience, # Lk 21:19; Heb 12:1 so that after you have done the will of God, you will receive the promise. 37For,
“In yet a little while,
He who is to come will come, and will not wait. # Isa 26:20; Hab 2:3
38Now the just shall live by faith;
but if anyone draws back,
My soul shall have no pleasure in him.” # Hab 2:4; Ro 1:17; Gal 3:11 # 10:37–38 Hab 2:3–4.
39But we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul.
