For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the working out of the good is not.

For I do not do the good that I want, but the evil I do not want, this I practise.

Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who is working it out, but sin which dwells in me.

So I find the law* that evil is present with me—the one who wants to do good. For I take pleasure in the law of God according to the inward man.*

But if I do that which I do not want, I consent to the Law that it is good.
