And all those who live on the earth will worship him—everyone whose name has not been written in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world.

He also causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and that no one may be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, that is,* the name of the beast or the number of his name.

“If anyone is to go* into captivity, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed by the sword, by the sword he is to be killed.” Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

And I saw coming up out of the sea a beast, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten crowns, and on his heads names of blasphemy.

Also it was granted to him to engage in war with the saints and to prevail over them.* And authority was granted to him over every tribe and people* and language and nation.

And he deceives those who live on the earth because of the signs which were granted to him to perform in full view of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make an image for the beast who has the wound of the sword and has come to life. And it was granted to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and cause all who would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like a bear’s, and his mouth was like the mouth of a lion. And to him the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority.

And a mouth was granted to him speaking great things and blasphemies, and authority was given to him to hold sway for forty-two months.*

And one of his heads appeared as though mortally wounded, yet his mortal wound was healed.* And the whole earth was filled with wonder and followed the beast.

Then I saw another beast coming up from the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he was speaking like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and he causes the earth and those who live in it to worship the first beast whose mortal wound was healed.
