But seek first and foremost the kingdom of God and His righteousness—make these your top priority—and all these necessities will be provided for you.

Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own concerns. Each day has enough trouble of its own to deal with.

"This is why I tell you: Do not be consumed with anxiety about your life—what you will eat or drink—or about your body and what you will wear. Is not life about more than just food? Is not the body worth more than clothing?

But when you pray, go into your private room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. Your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

Therefore, this is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven, may Your name be treated as holy and revered. May Your kingdom come and Your rule be established, may Your will be accomplished on earth just as it is in heaven.

Give us today the bread we need for this day.

Forgive us our debts and sins, just as we have forgiven those who are indebted to us.

And do not lead us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.

For if you forgive others their sins and offences against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Look carefully at the birds flying through the sky: They do not plant seeds, harvest crops, or store food in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them abundantly. Are you not far more valuable to Him than they are?

"Do not accumulate treasures for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust corrode and destroy them, and where thieves break in and steal. Instead, store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moths nor rust can destroy, and where thieves cannot break in or steal. For wherever your treasure is, that is where your heart will be focused as well.

"No one can serve two masters simultaneously. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money—you must choose.

Now if God clothes the grass in the field so beautifully—grass that is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven as fuel—will He not take far better care of you, you who have such little faith?

But when you give to the poor, do it so secretly that even your left hand does not know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving remains hidden. Then your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

"Be careful not to perform your acts of righteousness publicly before people just to gain their admiration and applause; otherwise, you will receive no reward from your Father in heaven.

"When you fast, do not put on a gloomy, mournful appearance like the hypocrites do, who deliberately make their faces look miserable so everyone will know they are fasting. I assure you, they have received their full reward. But when you fast, wash your face and anoint your head with oil as usual, so that your fasting will not be obvious to others but only to your Father who is in secret. Your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
