But in response, He said, quoting Scripture, "It is written in Deuteronomy: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word which proceeds out of the mouth of God'"*

Subsequently, immediately after His baptism, Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit deliberately to be tempted by the devil—to prove His qualification as the sinless Messiah. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry afterwards, physically weakened and vulnerable.

And He spoke to them with a call, "Come, follow Me as My disciples, and I will make you fishers of men, catching people for the kingdom of God." And immediately, without hesitation, they left the nets and followed Him in full commitment.

From that time on, Jesus began to preach publicly, saying, "Repent and turn from your sins, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near and God's reign is at hand."
