Around midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, while the other prisoners listened to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the prison's foundations were shaken. Immediately all the doors flew open, and everyone's chains came loose.

He brought them outside and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors standing open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted loudly, "Do not harm yourself! We are all here!"
