Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their heart back again.”

Now it came to pass at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel, and that I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.

And Elijah came to all the people and said, “How long will you vacillate between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.

Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the burnt sacrifice and the wood, and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

And when all the people saw, they fell on their faces. And they said, “The LORD, He is the God! The LORD, He is the God!”

And it came to pass at the seventh time, he said, “Behold, there arises a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand.” And he said, “Go up and say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down, before the rain stops you.’ ”

And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah. And he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink because of the sound of plenty of rain.”

Then he said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” And he went up and looked and said, “Nothing.” And he said, “Go again seven times.”

And Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been thrown down.

And you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD. And it shall be, the God that answers by fire, He is God.” And all the people answered and said, “The word is good.”

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, “Israel shall be your name.”

Now it came to pass at noon Elijah mocked them and said, “Cry aloud with a great voice, for he is a god. Either he is meditating, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey. Perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened!”

And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD, and he made a trench around the altar big enough to contain two measures of seed.
