When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

After this, when Jesus saw that everything was now finished, in order to fulfill the Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.”

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, yoʋr son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, yoʋr mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.

But when they came to Jesus, they did not break his legs since they saw that he was already dead. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

For these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “No bone of his will be broken.” And, as another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”

Carrying his own cross, he went out to a location called the Place of the Skull (which in Hebrew is called Golgotha).

The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on his head, and then clothed him with a purple garment.
