Day 2: God’s Teaching: A New Purpose

One of the ways Scripture works in our lives is through teaching. The Bible says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV).

Teaching shows us what is true and what matters most. Without it, we try to figure out life on our own—and often end up chasing the wrong things. Many people look for purpose in success, wealth, or comfort. But even when they achieve those things, they’re often left asking, “Is this really it?”

In 2024, a well-known real estate figure tragically ended his life, buried in debt despite living what seemed like a glamorous lifestyle. His story reflects a deeper crisis: people are searching for meaning in all the wrong places.

God’s Word teaches us where to find lasting purpose. When God’s people were exiled and discouraged, longing for escape, He gave them this promise: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).

Jesus modeled this perfectly. His life wasn’t focused on comfort or ease. He was misunderstood and ultimately crucified. Yet through His life, death, and resurrection, He shows us that true purpose comes not from having it all, but from knowing Him and living in His story.

When you let Scripture teach you, it reshapes your understanding of life. It helps you see God’s bigger plan and equips you to live it out.
