LENT - a Journey for Teens: The Places We Goናሙና

When Feeling You’re Not Good Enough
Listen to the song: “You say” by Laure n Daigle
Many of us, even as believers, struggle to believe that we are good enough. Sometimes you might struggle to believe that you are worthy and even loveable. An even bigger struggle might come in, when you find it hard to believe that God loves you as you are. We are easily tempted to believe that there are things we first need to do or accomplish, to be worthy of love, especially God’s love.
We can easily confuse behaviour with our inherent worthiness. We think we don't measure up because of how we have behaved and therefore we’re not good enough. Sometimes we confuse accomplishments, our own or those of others, with worthiness and therefore think we’re not good enough. Sometimes we internalize negative messages from others and then believe we’re not really good enough.
How we think of ourselves impacts our ability to be the best version of ourselves.
Saint Ireneaus wrote: “The glory of God is man fully alive.” When we do not believe we are good enough, we find it hard to be “fully alive”.
On this Lent adventure, we discover how God desires each of us to have life, and have it to the full. As Jesus tells us, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. (John 10:10)
This week, you are invited to step back and notice how the message “I am not good enough” has impacted your relationship with yourself, with your friends and family, and with God.
During this week, write down some of the best qualities and gifts you believe you have. Then, in prayer, name these qualities and gifts to God, and give thanks to Him for them.
Prayer:
I have loved you with and everlasting love; I have drawn you with an unfailing kindness. (Jeremiah 31:3)
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for loving me.

This Lent plan invites you to face that which you so easily avoid - your humanity, your brokenness, your sadness and disappointments. For the next 40 days, we will embark on an adventure filled with some alone time, prayer and fasting. Each day will provide a scripture, a guide, an exercise and a grace prayer which you can pray throughout your day.
