Moulded by God

"Perfectionism at its core isn't about high standards. It's about fear. Fear of failure. Fear of looking stupid, fear of making a mistake, fear of being judged, criticised, and ridiculed. It's the fear that one simple fact might be true: You're not good enough." – Marie Forelo

What does “perfection” or “good enough” mean? Our beliefs are so often rooted in how we understand or define things.

When we think we’re not good enough, we might fall into the trap of seeking to be perfect all the time. We can be exhausted by trying to be someone we are not, because we think that if we could be like this or like that person, we would be good enough. This is just tiring and will drain our energy. The more we strive to be who we are not, the more restless, weird and dissatisfied we feel.

Lent invites us to recognize that each of us are continually moulded in the hands of God. We are “God’s handiwork”. We claim our value because God’s fingerprint is on each of us.

Exercise:

What does "good enough" mean to you? Are you tiring yourself out by trying to be someone that you are not? Spend time today talking to God and giving God thanks for who you are and how God has moulded you.

Prayer:

I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. (Jeremiah 31:3)

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for loving me.

LENT - a Journey for Teens: The Places We Go

This Lent plan invites you to face that which you so easily avoid - your humanity, your brokenness, your sadness and disappointments. For the next 40 days, we will embark on an adventure filled with some alone time, prayer and fasting. Each day will provide a scripture, a guide, an exercise and a grace prayer which you can pray throughout your day.
