Die HERE het vir Abram gesê: Gaan weg uit jou land en uit jou familie en uit jou vader se huis, na 'n land wat Ek jou sal wys. Ek sal jou 'n groot nasie maak, en Ek sal jou seën en jou naam groot maak; en jy sal 'n seën wees. En Ek sal seën die wat jou seën, en hom vervloek wat jou vervloek; en in jou sal al die geslagte van die aarde geseën word. Daarop het Abram weggegaan, soos die HERE met hom gespreek het; en Lot het saam met hom gegaan, en Abram was vyf en sewentig jaar oud toe hy uit Haran vertrek het. Abram het sy vrou Sarai geneem en Lot, sy broer se seun, en al hulle besittings wat hulle bymekaargemaak het, en die siele wat hulle in Haran gekry het; en hulle het uitgetrek om na die land Kanaän te gaan; en hulle het in die land Kanaän gekom. Abram het deur die land getrek tot by die plek Sigem, tot by die vlakte More. En die Kanaäniet was toe in die land. Die HERE het aan Abram verskyn en gesê: Aan jou nageslag sal Ek hierdie land gee; en Hy het daar 'n altaar gebou vir die HERE wat aan hom verskyn het. En daarvandaan het hy opgetrek na 'n berg oos van Bet-el en sy tent opgeslaan met Bet-el aan die westekant en Hai aan die oostekant; en hy het daar 'n altaar vir die HERE gebou en die Naam van die HERE aangeroep.
