Die HERE het vir Abram gesê: “Gaan weg uit jou land, weg van jou familie en jou ouerhuis, na die land wat Ek jou sal wys. “ Ek sal jou 'n groot nasie maak; Ek sal jou seën en jou naam groot maak, sodat jy 'n seën sal wees. Ek sal hulle seën wat jou seën, maar wie jou verwens, sal Ek vervloek. En deur jou sal al die grootfamilies van die aarde geseënd wees. ” Abram het gegaan, soos die HERE vir hom gesê het, en Lot het saam met hom gegaan. Abram was vyf-en-sewentig jaar oud met sy vertrek uit Haran. Abram het Sarai, sy vrou, en Lot, sy broerskind, geneem, ook al die besittings wat hulle bekom het, en al die mense wat hulle in Haran verkry het. Hulle het vertrek om na die land Kanaän te gaan en het in die land Kanaän aangekom. Abram het deur die land getrek tot by die plek Sigem, tot by die akkerboom van Morê. Die Kanaäniete was toe in die land. Die HERE verskyn toe aan Abram en sê: “Aan jou nageslag gee Ek hierdie land.” Hy het toe daar 'n altaar gebou vir die HERE wat aan hom verskyn het. Hy het daarvandaan verder getrek na die heuwelland oos van Bet-El, en sy tente opgeslaan tussen Bet-El aan die westekant en Ai aan die oostekant. Daar het hy vir die HERE 'n altaar gebou en die Naam van die HERE aangeroep.
