Storm Watch

If you want to read a great example of a person’s faith persevering through difficult times, look no further than the Book of Job. If you’re not familiar with it, Job is a book that can be found in the Old Testament, and tells the story about a great believer named Job, who was so devout that he caught the eye of the Devil himself. Satan wanted to prove that he could have any person doubting their faith, so God allowed him to put Job through a series of terrible sufferings and trying times. These weren’t just small inconveniences—Job lost his crops, his money, his friends—he even lost several of his children. And yet, through it all, Job still maintained his faith in the Goodness of God.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Job was happy about what he had to suffer through. If we take a closer look at additional chapters, we’ll find times when Job himself wonders why he was being put through these trials. He lists things he may have done wrong and the questions that he wants answered, and he even cries out to God on multiple occasions. He never hid his frustration, confusion, and even a bit of anger from God. But through it all, his love and faith did not waver. God never wants us to hide our feelings or try to put on a brave face when we pray. Instead, God wants us to call upon Him with honesty when we’re in the midst of our suffering and remember He is there through it all.
