Are you a planner? Do you like a good schedule? Okay, not all of us are wired that way, but for some, there is something comforting about the structure of a plan. It can involve big things—like a vacation or a known work conference. But a schedule also consists of all the little events that tend to crop up as well—like cleaning out your gutters or finally booking that dentist appointment you’ve been avoiding. Plans help us feel as though we have control over what is happening in our daily lives. But life is full of the unexpected.

There’s even a saying among believers—if you want to make God laugh, try to plan out your own life. Like it or not, no matter how perfectly we try to plan or how intentional we are about making a schedule, there’s a good chance something will not work out the way we had hoped. Our plans will change. An unexpected event may derail your perfectly crafted schedule. And yet, we can take comfort in knowing that, even if we feel like our lives are out of control, we are actually in the best hands possible.
