Day 4: Shallow Wildfire Stories – Shallow Justice
Devotional
Conflict often leads us to write shallow wildfire stories—stories that reduce people to their worst moments. In a world shaped by retributive justice, offenders are often labeled in narrow, damaging ways that can follow them for life. These labels become identities, trapping individuals in cycles of shame, exclusion, and repeated failure. While retributive systems emphasize punishment, they rarely bring true healing to victims or lasting transformation to offenders. But at the Peacefire, Jesus offers something deeper: a justice that restores rather than reduces. His love breaks the power of labels and reclaims every story for redemption.
Reflection Question:
Are there people you’ve labeled by their past rather than their potential in Christ?
Prayer:
Jesus, help me reject shallow stories and retributive labels. Teach me to see others through Your eyes and to embrace the transforming justice that restores what has been broken. Amen.
