Receive God’s Truth

Key Verse : John 4:50

In John 5, we see a royal official whose son was nearing death. He got word of Jesus’ arrival to Galilee and knew he had to see Jesus. Out of desperation, he begged Jesus to come with him to his home in Capernaum to heal his son.

Imagine if your child was dying—you’d probably be panicked, right? If it was me, and I was begging Jesus to help me, I would hope to see Jesus take off running towards my child! But Jesus tends to surprise us. I love reading the Bible because the more I read, the more I know about Jesus and His character. And I’ve noticed that Jesus doesn’t panic.

“Go,” Jesus told him, “your son will live.” John 4:50a

That’s it? Just go? Without you, Jesus? I feel like I would have had a tough time believing without seeing, with my own eyes, Jesus healing my son. I imagine I would say something like, “Thanks for that word, but can you come with me just in case I get there and he isn’t alive?”

Clearly, the royal official had more faith than that because the Bible tells us, “ The man believed what Jesus said to him and departed ” (John 4:50b). What faith he possessed that he didn’t question Jesus or hesitate to obey His commands! He simply believed. (Spoiler alert: Jesus was right. The man’s son was healed!)

Every single day we have the opportunity to hear from God. Through prayer, through reading His word, through looking for Him in creation…He is always communicating with His children.

What is God speaking to you? Do you find yourself hesitant to believe? Friend, I encourage you to receive God’s Word as truth. It is the most solid foundation you could ever build your life upon.
