Luke’s story begins to unravel more of who Jesus is. He shows him claiming to have the power to forgive peoples’ sins, and performing incredible miracles like calming storms, driving out evil spirits, healing the sick and raising a girl from the dead. He’s doing all of this far away from Jerusalem, for people who aren’t Jewish. He even tells a story about a Samaritan (who the Jews despised) and suggests that people should love those who they’ve previously avoided.
