2Abraham gat Isaac; an’ Isaac gat Jacob; an’ Jacob gat Judas an’ his brithren;
3An’ Judas gat Phares an’ Zara o’ Thamar; an’ Phares gat Esrom; an’ Esrom gat Aram;
4An’ Aram gat Aminadab; an’ Aminadab gat Naasson; an’ Naasson gat Salmon;
5An’ Salmon gat Booz o’ Rachab; an’ Booz gat Obed o’ Ruth; an’ Obed gat Jesse;
6An’ Jesse gat David the king; an’ David the king gat Solomon o’ her wha had been the wife o’ Urias;
7An’ Solomon gat Roboam; an’ Roboam gat Abia; an’ Abia gat Asa;

12An’ after they were broucht til Babylon, Jechonias gat Salathiel; an’ Salathiel gat Zorobabel;
13An’ Zorobabel gat Abiud; an’ Abiud gat Eliakim; an’ Eliakim gat Azor;
14An’ Azor gat Sadoc; an’ Sadoc gat Achim; an’ Achim gat Eliud;
15An’ Eliud gat Eleazar; an’ Eleazar gat Matthan; an’ Matthan gat Jacob;
16An’ Jacob gat Joseph the husban’ o’ Mary, o’ wham was born Jesus, wha is ca’d Christ.
17Sae a’ the generations frae Abraham til David are fourteen generations, an’ frae David till the carryin’ awa intil Babylon are fourteen generations; an’ frae the carryin’ awa intil Babylon until Christ are fourteen generations.
18Now the birth o’ Jesus Christ was after this gate: Whan his mither Mary was bund in wadlock troth til Joseph, afore they cam’ thegither, she was fund wi’ bairn o’ the Haly Ghaist:
19Syne Joseph her husban’, bein’ a just man, an’ na willin’ to mak’ her a public example, was mindet to pit her awa hiddlinsly.
20But while he thoucht on thae things, behald, the angel o’ the Lord kythet until him in a dream, sayin’, Joseph, thou son o’ David, binna afear’t to tak’ until thee Mary thy wife; for that whilk is conceivet in her is o’ the Haly Ghaist.
21An’ she sall bring furth a son, an’ thou sallt ca’ his name Jesus; for he sall saufe his people frae their sins.
22Now a’ this was dune, that it micht be fulfillet whilk was spoken o’ the Lord by the prophet, sayin’,
23Behald, a maiden sall be wi’ bairn, an’ sall bring furth a son, an’ they sall ca’ his name Emmanuel, (whilk, bein’ interpretet, is, God wi’ us.)
24Syne Joseph, bein’ raiset frae sleep, did as the angel o’ the Lord had bidden him, an’ teuk until him his wife:
25An’ didna ken her till she had broucht furth her first‐born son; an’ he ca’d his name Jesus.
