Change Before You Have ToSmakprov
Truth Precedes Change
KEY IDEA. Encountering truth always results in a need to change.
Learning is the result of cognitive dissonance. This is the difference between what you know and what you believe you need to know. When there is a distance between knowledge and need, learning can take place.
You might not see the need to change because you don’t see a difference between what you know and what you need to know. In other words, you think you’re fine just the way you are.
Truth, however, has a way of reminding us that learning and change is needed. That’s how Jesus helped people see their need for change—He introduced truth and they responded with a desire to change.
It’s easy to settle into a way of life that resists truth. It’s not that you don’t want to know the truth; it’s just easier to stay the same than it is to change. When you encounter truth, you will change. You can’t embrace truth and stay the way you are. Paul discovered that on the road to Damascus. Have you had a similar experience?
TAKE ACTION TODAY. Identify the sources of truth in your life. What makes you believe some things are true and others are not?
