Många samarier från den staden hade kommit till tro på honom genom kvinnans ord när hon försäkrade: »Han har sagt mig allt som jag har gjort.« När samarierna kom till honom bad de honom stanna hos dem, och han stannade där två dagar. Många fler kom till tro genom hans egna ord, och de sade till kvinnan: »Nu är det inte längre vad du har sagt som får oss att tro. Vi har själva hört honom och vet att han verkligen är världens frälsare.«
