ZOTI i tha Abramit: «Dil nga vendi yt, nga farefisi yt e nga shtëpia e atit tënd dhe shko në vendin që do të të tregoj. Do të të bëj komb të madh e do të të bekoj. Emrin tënd do ta bëj të madh e bekim do të jesh. Do të bekoj këdo që të bekon, por atë që të përçmon do ta mallkoj. Të gjitha fiset e tokës do të bekohen në ty». Atëherë Abrami bëri siç i tha ZOTI. Me të shkoi edhe Loti. Abrami ishte shtatëdhjetë e pesë vjeç kur u nis nga Harani. Ai mori me vete Sarajën, të shoqen, nipin e tij, Lotin, dhe tërë pasurinë e njerëzit që kishin mbledhur në Haran e u nisën drejt tokës së Kanaanit. Kur arritën në tokën e Kanaanit, Abrami përshkoi vendin deri te lisi i Morehut në Shekem. Në atë kohë, në atë vend banonin kananitët. ZOTI iu shfaq Abramit e tha: «Pasardhësve të tu do t'ua jap këtë vend». Atëherë Abrami i ngriti aty një altar ZOTIT që i ishte shfaqur. Prej andej u shpërngul drejt malit në lindje të Betelit dhe ngriti tendën mes Betelit në perëndim e Ajit në lindje. Edhe aty i ngriti një altar ZOTIT e thirri emrin e tij.
