Creative Mission

Not long ago, I was meeting with a business in the U.S. that has seen over 300 people commit their lives to Jesus—every month this year. That’s not a typo. Three hundred a month. And it didn’t happen through a church program or a revival crusade. It happened because those believers understood that their work in the marketplace wasn’t a second-class calling.

Convinced of this calling, they rewrote their corporate mission statement to align with God’s mission. And they didn’t stop at platitudes; instead, they began to sacrificially care for their employees. And not just with paychecks, but with prayer, with counseling, with chaplains available to anyone who asked. Their boardroom became a mission field. Their break rooms became places of ministry. Their ordinary work became Kingdom work.

What struck me most wasn’t just the fruit but the creativity. They weren’t trying to copy a church service inside their company. They were asking, “How can we live the gospel right here, in ways only we can?”

Paul captured this heart when he said, “I have become all things to all people, so that by all possible means I might save some.” That’s the posture of creative mission, not bending the Gospel, but bending ourselves to reach people where they really are.
