DAY 20 OF 28

Day 20—Pouring out your pain in worship

Devotional
When you are in the midst of pain—whether something has been done to you or you are facing the consequences of your actions—God is full of compassion if you will cry out to Him (Psalm 116:5 NIV). The psalmist describes his pain as “the cords of death” and being “overcome by distress and sorrow” (Psalm 116:3 NIV), but now God has “delivered me from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from stumbling” (Psalm 116:8 NIV). So be deeply honest with God if you are in a low place today. And if it’s in the past, give thanks for his deliverance! God responds to your brokenness and your gratitude, which is why Jesus shows such deep compassion for the woman who anointed him with oil. She was deeply sorry for creating her own pain, and Jesus responded with love and forgiveness. And He will do the same for you, so pour out your pain in worship.

Prayer
Lord, I come in honesty today, giving You my pain—all that I am facing today or have faced in the past. Please reach out and bring Your rescue. Where any of this has been my fault, please forgive me and help me to start anew. Amen.

Application
Light a candle to remind you that Jesus is your light in the midst of darkness. As you sit by the light, write out a short prayer of honesty and worship to God, either about your current pain or how God has rescued you from past pain.

About this Plan

Deeper in Worship

"Deeper In Worship" is a 28-day plan designed to help you grow in your love for God through a fuller understanding of why and how we worship. Worship is for God alone; it is deeply spiritual, often physical, and a journey into encountering the presence of God. The plan includes a daily Psalm and a New Testament passage. It finishes with a short devotional, a prayer, and a suggested application.
