DAY 19 OF 28

Day 19—Worship includes kneeling and falling down

Devotional
When you are in the presence of someone great, it is right to show suitable respect, and in many cultures, bowing is the most obvious response. David addresses the Lord as “my King and my God” (Psalm 5:2 NIV). In worship, we humble ourselves before Almighty God: “in reverence I bow down” (Psalms 5:7 NIV). When the wise men arrived in Bethlehem and found the baby Jesus, they knew they were in the presence of a king and so “they bowed down and worshipped him” (Matthew 2:11 NIV). Perhaps the idea of kneeling, bowing or prostrating before God in worship seems excessive, but it is an entirely appropriate response to God, who is the Creator of all things. He deserves worship that honours His high position, and therefore it is fitting that we go lower.

Prayer
Lord, I declare You are my King and my God, and You deserve the highest praise. I lower myself in the presence of Your greatness. Be glorified. Amen.

Application
Take a short time to kneel, bow, or prostrate yourself before God and wait silently in His presence, meditating on His greatness.

About this Plan

Deeper in Worship

"Deeper In Worship" is a 28-day plan designed to help you grow in your love for God through a fuller understanding of why and how we worship. Worship is for God alone; it is deeply spiritual, often physical, and a journey into encountering the presence of God. The plan includes a daily Psalm and a New Testament passage. It finishes with a short devotional, a prayer, and a suggested application.
