The Thief of Everythingਨਮੂਨਾ

Have you ever found yourself doing something to impress someone else? Be honest here! Maybe you tried to wear the perfect outfit to fit in with the other parents at your child’s school. Or perhaps you changed the way you talked or the things you were interested in to be accepted by the other families in your neighborhood. Or maybe you bought that new phone you didn’t need to impress your coworkers with the purchase. The truth is, we all know what it feels like to want to impress—to do whatever we think we have to do to measure up. But have you ever considered that this fixation with impressing others is a form of pride?

We get so focused on ourselves and what we think we need to do to compare that we lose sight of the things that matter. The humility, the selflessness, the servant heart, the unconditional love, and more that God calls us to live with as followers of Jesus! So, the next time you find yourself tempted to impress so you feel like you measure up, pause and remember this verse. Work to memorize this week to remind yourself of what it means to choose true humility.
