The Thief of Everythingਨਮੂਨਾ

Have you ever heard someone talk about the so-called “green-eyed monster”? If you have, then you may know precisely what it means. Coined by Shakespeare himself, the term is another way of talking about jealousy. And honestly, it makes sense! If you’ve ever experienced deep feelings of jealousy, then you know why it’s often described as a monster. Though it starts small, if you let it grow unchecked, jealousy will, as James put it, lead to all kinds of disorder and evil in your life. It can turn kind words into angry fights, good friends into enemies, positive thoughts into negative self-talk, and self-confidence into total insecurity.
So, what do we do? How do we fight the monster of jealousy trying to rage inside of us? By leaving no room for it to take up residence within us! If we fill our hearts and minds with the things of God—goodness, love, selflessness, gratitude, and the like—we’ll find there’s little room for much else, jealousy included! Start this week by filling your heart and mind with more of the things of God. Begin with gratitude and choose to find at least one thing you’re grateful for every day. As you do, thank God for that gift in your life and pray that He would help you realize that, because of all God has given you, there’s no need to let jealousy take root in your life.

About this Plan

It’s easy to get caught up in comparison. We compare our thoughts, words, actions, relationships, and even our faith. Chances are, if we’re honest, we’d admit that comparison makes us feel a lot worse. It has the potential to steal our joy, self-image, peace, success, and faith. That’s because comparison is a thief. As we’ll see in this series, we’ll look at the secret to breaking the cycle of comparison.
