REFORM OUR LIVES, LORD!

Before encountering Jesus, Simon’s livelihood depended on being a fisherman. Consumed with the weight of providing fish for his family to eat and ensuring a thriving business, he stayed up working hard all night and didn’t catch a thing. Jesus showed Simon His goodness and love by ministering to him through provision. The exact thing Simon struggled to produce, God supplied abundantly with so many fish that it filled both boats to overflowing! What Jesus had just abundantly provided, Simon would no longer need because Jesus was about to reform his life and call him to abandon everything to follow him. Things that you think are so important become obsolete when God comes to reform your lives.

Reformation will bring a lifestyle of repentance. Luke 5:8 says, “When Simon Peter saw this astonishing miracle, he knelt at Jesus’ feet and begged him, 'Go away from me, Master, for I am a sinful man!' God’s display of love, provision, and care brought instant reformation and repentance in Simon’s life. Are you prepared to let the Lord reform your life? “Then Jesus said to Simon, ’Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.’ So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything, and followed him” (Luke 5:10-11).

Simon’s response to God’s call on His life was to immediately leave everything behind! Simon displayed the character of a reformer. Reformation will bring action. Are you willing to leave behind a business, your possessions, and those things you trust in to follow God fully? Reformation looks like building your life around God’s ways. “And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me’” (Luke 9:23 ESV).

PRAYER

Lord, I ask for you to reform any crooked ways within me. I seek your heart and mind in all things. I pray less of me, more of you. I want to be zealous for your discipline. Show me what pleases you. Give me a teachable heart of repentance. I want to be set apart for You, for Your glory. I love you. Amen.
