Build on the Rock

It is one thing to listen to others and respect what they say, but it is another thing to implement their wisdom in our own lives. True transformation happens when we actively apply truth to our lives. Nothing changes when we simply think about a concept or acknowledge its existence. We must be willing to shift our thinking, allow our hearts to be transformed, and move in a different direction. Obedience to God is more than just an ideology. He has given us several intentional instructions, and when we follow them, our lives are transformed.

Jesus’ instructions were not flippant sayings. They reflect the values of the kingdom of God. Jesus revealed what the Father is like and what he wants us to be like in this world. Jesus’ teachings show us how to love, forgive, and serve. He gave practical instructions and taught us how to apply God’s love to our daily lives. He doesn’t want us to sit in circles and simply discuss the Father’s kingdom. He wants us to implement its values in everything we do. Every moment of our lives is an opportunity to love and serve the Lord with our words, thoughts, and actions.

We build our lives upon the solid rock of Christ when we adopt his ways as our own. We must take the wisdom of His Word seriously, not only in the realm of our minds, but in how we interact with others. As we encourage, lift up, and care for other people, we show them what Jesus is like. As we refuse to argue with and diminish the people around us, we embody the peace and humility of Christ.

When you follow the wisdom of God, you don’t start from scratch. You are building upon a foundation that is firm and set. You are standing securely upon God’s eternal truth. It’s not your job to make sure the house stands firmly. It’s your job to acknowledge the work that has been done and continue to partner with the Maker. As you listen to Jesus and put his words into practice, you are building something that will stand the test of time. When storms come, you will not be shaken because God himself has made you strong.
