Hope Anchors our Soul
Hebrews 6:18-19
“We who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
The hope offered in Christ costs us something. We must flee the false security of living for this world and its approval, to pursue the eternal reward and hope in Christ. We grab hold of this hope through faith in Christ. We trust Jesus for our salvation from sin and for everything we need every day. Jesus is our life. It is Jesus who now becomes the fixed reference part of our lives, the anchor in the storm. When our thoughts or emotions are buffeted by winds of doubt, fear or temptation, we look to Jesus and depend on Him. Jesus alone is firm and secure. We can pull hard on this anchor for our soul – and find great encouragement when we need it most. While the cost of finding our hope in Jesus is high, the rewards and strength we find are even greater!
Lord Jesus, you are my hope. Thank you that your presence and promises anchor my soul and provide strength and encouragement today.
