Growing Multigenerational Faithಮಾದರಿ

I’ll never forget my first Bible study leader. I was 24, just weeks into following Jesus, and Rich, who seemed old to me then, led with quiet strength and an abundance of wisdom. We met with a group of guys in the church basement we called “the dungeon,” thanks to its narrow stairs and tendency to flood.
Rich lived with Jesus first. I hung on every word; he lived the way I wanted to live… and I knew it even then.
That was 34 years ago. Just this last week, my family and I had another BBQ with Rich and his wife. Who he was in the early '90s is who he still is today. Jesus is why he’s not a grumpy old man. Jesus is why he’s still married. Jesus is why he serves the homeless every Monday and drives dental teams into Mexico twice a year in his 80s.
Rich has been a mentor to me and to many. His faith is still actively shaping mine. Now, that’s a legacy!
Paul told Timothy, “Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God.” (2 Timothy 1:8, ESV).
Rich does just that: lives his life for Jesus- unashamed, faithful, and enduring.
Later, Paul urges Timothy, “Follow the pattern of sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit that dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.” (2 Timothy 1:13–14, ESV).
Rich guards what was entrusted to him and passes it on; Paul did this as well, and it continued through Timothy.
Do I live for Jesus first? Do you? Do we even want to?
If so, someone years from now may just call that a legacy.

Questions to Consider
- Who is a person of spiritual influence in your life?
- How are you a person of spiritual influence in their life?
Actions to Take
- Reach out to someone who has had a spiritual legacy in your life and thank them.
- Prayerfully consider who God has put in your path to be a spiritual mentor and then step into the assignment.
Prayer to Make
Jesus, oftentimes I feel inadequate to the task of helping others know you more fully. I see my weaknesses and failures more than I see your power and provision. Help me keep my eyes on you and be a conduit of love to others. Amen.
