Come Closer

DAY 13 OF 14

In 1928, the researcher Alexander Fleming returned from vacation.
He just wanted to check on his bacterial cultures—and discovered: Mold had grown in one of the dishes.
That wasn’t part of the plan.
But right where the mold had spread, the bacteria had disappeared.
What looked like a lab accident led to the discovery of penicillin—the first antibiotic.

God often acts in exactly this way—unexpectedly.
Not with a big announcement.
Not at the perfect moment.
But in everyday life, and often through people.

Jesus once said:
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” (Matthew 25:35 NIV)
And then came the question:
“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?” (Matthew 25:37 NIV)
His answer: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40 NIV)

In other words:
Jesus meets people—through us.
Not through grand gestures, but through genuine attentiveness:
A listening ear, a simple greeting, an invitation, a prayer.

And sometimes, we only realize later that it meant something more...
When someone says:
“That really helped me.”

Two disciples walking the road to Emmaus experienced it from the other side.
Jesus walks with them, talks with them—but they don’t recognize Him.
Only later, when He breaks bread with them, do their eyes open.
He had been there all along.

Maybe today someone is walking next to you—and they will sense Jesus…
Because you are there.
Because you listen.
Because you ask.
Because you care.

“Jesus, who do You want to draw closer to Yourself today through me—and what should I be attentive to?”
