Some Jews viewed them as the enemy from whom the Messianic King would bring deliverance. Some even expected two different messiahs! One would be a priest bringing religious reforms; the other, a conquering king who would re-establish Israel as a sovereign state. This is why so many Jews misunderstood the mission of Jesus. He was the one Messiah promised in the Scriptures, who brought forgiveness of sins, defeated Satan (that ancient serpent, humanity’s real enemy), and began to spiritually re-establish God’s Kingdom on earth.
