DAY 3 OF 28

Day 3–Jesus is central to your worship

Devotional
In using the psalms to reflect on worship, it would be possible to almost forget the place of Jesus in worship. However, there are many of the psalms which speak prophetically of Jesus and how worship should be addressed to Him as part of the Trinity. This psalm speaks of a royal bridegroom (Jesus), and how He is brought to His bride (the Church). The bridegroom is "the most excellent of men" whose lips "have been anointed with grace," as God has blessed Him forever (Psalms 125:2 NIV). Elsewhere, it talks of His victories (Psalms 125:3-5 NIV), His righteous government (Psalms 125:6-7 NIV), and the splendour of His kingdom (Psalms 125:8-9 NIV). All this speaks of Jesus, as described often in this way by Paul in His letters. In some wonderful words in Colossians, he describes how Jesus is fully God and worthy of your worship and praise. When you come to worship, Jesus must be central to your focus. He is fully God and fully human—a divine mystery—and through Him, you have been reconciled to God, through Jesus’ blood shed on the cross. You cannot worship God without also worshipping Jesus. By making Jesus central to your worship, you will encounter the fullness of God more deeply.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I praise You and thank You for who You are and all that You have done for me on the cross. I worship You as the image of the invisible God. I thank You that in You I can see God, and I bow before You now. Amen.

Application
Read through the Colossians passage slowly and worshipfully. Then sing a Jesus-focused song, rest in the knowledge that He is with you, and ask Him to reveal Himself afresh to you.

About this Plan

Deeper in Worship

"Deeper In Worship" is a 28-day plan designed to help you grow in your love for God through a fuller understanding of why and how we worship. Worship is for God alone; it is deeply spiritual, often physical, and a journey into encountering the presence of God. The plan includes a daily Psalm and a New Testament passage. It finishes with a short devotional, a prayer, and a suggested application.
