Day 6—Worship the Creator, not creation
Devotional
This world is beautiful. Consider the galaxies, the planets and stars, the mountains, forests and oceans, the countless creatures, and the apex of His creation—all of humanity; they are all spectacular! However, I am reminded that just like a painting, creation is the canvas and not the artist. “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of His mouth” (Psalms 29:6 NIV). Wow! What can you do but revere this God (Psalms 29:8 NIV)? In Acts 17 (NIV), Paul emphasises that this same God does not live in temples made by human hands. He warns us not to ascribe glory and adoration to silver, gold, or stone (Acts 17:24 NIV). These were made by man’s design and skill. These are idols, and created things can easily become the object of your worship. Worship is for God the Creator alone!
Prayer
Father, thank You for all You have created. I see Your intentionality and beauty in it all. But help me keep my eyes focused on You—the Creator of all things. I do not want my heart to be captivated by what You have made. Rather, let my worship be for You alone! Amen.
Application
Reflect on what might be competing for your reverence. Is there anything you're giving devotion to over God?

About this Plan

"Deeper In Worship" is a 28-day plan designed to help you grow in your love for God through a fuller understanding of why and how we worship. Worship is for God alone; it is deeply spiritual, often physical, and a journey into encountering the presence of God. The plan includes a daily Psalm and a New Testament passage. It finishes with a short devotional, a prayer, and a suggested application.
