From Our Father to Amen: The Prayer That Shapes UsSýnishorn

Who is in Heaven
Looking Up: Living with Heaven in View
Heaven is a word that instantly lifts our eyes upward, reminding us of something greater beyond our daily struggles. When Jesus taught us to pray, He specifically said, “Our Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:9 NKJV), not just to remind us of God’s location but to help us understand His majesty and power.
We often think of heaven in three different ways: the sky and atmosphere, the universe filled with stars, and the very dwelling place of God. Each of these perspectives teaches us something beautiful about our Father.
First, heaven is the sky—the air we breathe, the clouds above, the sunrises and sunsets painted with incredible colors. These wonders remind us of God’s provision and beauty. Taking time to appreciate a sunrise or the feel of the wind is a way of recognizing the hand of God in creation.
Second, heaven refers to the universe—the sun, moon, and countless stars that declare God’s glory. Looking at the night sky should remind us of how small we are and how great God is. In Job, God asks, “Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons?” (Job 38:21 NIV)—a humbling reminder that He controls everything, and we are simply part of His grand design.
The third and most glorious meaning of heaven is the place where God dwells—the throne room of the Almighty. Revelation 4-5 describes it as a place of worship, filled with joy and majesty. And incredibly—this is our true home! Philippians 3:20 tells us that our citizenship is in heaven. No matter how chaotic life gets, we must remember that we are just passing through this world.
Jesus taught us to focus on heavenly treasures rather than earthly ones. Everything here fades—cars rust, clothes wear out, homes break down. But the things we do for God’s kingdom last forever. When we serve, love, and live for Him, we are storing up treasures in heaven.
So, what does this mean for our daily lives? It means lifting our eyes above our worries, trusting that God’s ways are higher than ours, and living with the assurance that He is preparing a place for us. Our Father, who is in heaven, watches over us, guides us, and calls us to set our minds on things above.
Heaven is not just a place—it’s our future, our hope, and our home. Let’s keep looking up!
About this Plan

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus gives us a model for prayer. This beautiful prayer, known as The Lord’s Prayer, begins with a worshipful "Our Father", reminding us of our close and loving relationship with God, and ends with "Amen" or “so be it”— a bold declaration of faith, trust, and surrender. As we reflect on the words our Lord has given us and the journey they take us through—worship, surrender, dependence, forgiveness, and spiritual protection—may “Amen” rise from our lips not as an ending, but as an act of worship.
