Cultivating a Heart That Hears

We live in a world overflowing with noise—texts, notifications, headlines, opinions. From the moment we wake up, we’re bombarded with messages competing for our attention. To survive, we’ve learned to tune things out. We scroll past. We skim. We ignore.

But that habit doesn’t always turn off when we open our Bibles.

Sometimes, we approach God’s Word the same way we do everything else—quickly, distracted, half-present. We hear it, but we don’t let it sink in. We nod in agreement, but walk away unchanged. The truth is, it’s not the seed that’s the problem. It’s the soil.

Jesus taught that the condition of our hearts determines how the Word takes root. Are we hard and distracted? Shallow and inconsistent? Or are we willing and open, letting truth take hold?

Respond to God’s Word:

Receiving God’s Word isn’t just about hearing—it’s about welcoming. It’s about pausing long enough for His truth to take root in our hearts and grow fruit in our lives. Today, ask yourself honestly: what kind of soil is my heart? Water it with prayer. Tend it with obedience. Because when His Word sinks deep, it doesn’t just inform—it transforms.
