DAY 7 OF 25

THE GOD OF THE PRESENT

Our God is the God of the past, present, and future. Joshua built a memorial with 12 stones, a testament to God’s unwavering faithfulness in the past. While we must continually remember what He has done, we must also recognize what He is doing in our lives right now. Trusting in God is an everyday, present decision, fueled by the stories of His power at work in the past.

God’s past faithfulness encourages us to live with present trust and obedience. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us to trust in God right here and now:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

Though we can draw strength from God’s work in the past, we cannot live on memories alone. We need God’s fresh, empowering Spirit every day. God is continually ready to meet us in our needs, pouring out His presence afresh.

“Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.” John 7:37-39 (NIV)

God desires to pour His Spirit afresh on you today. He wants to meet you in your needs, your shortcomings, your losses. He longs to fill you with His love, joy, and peace right now in your present circumstances.

As we reflect on God’s faithfulness in the past, let it fuel our trust and obedience in the present. But remember, God is not just a distant God of yesterday, He is with us today offering His presence anew. He longs to pour out His Spirit upon us to refresh, renew, and empower us for every step ahead.

CHALLENGE:

Begin your day with a simple prayer asking the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh. Invite Him to renew your heart and empower you for whatever challenges or opportunities you will face today. Wrestle with the following question: In what specific ways in my life right now might God be challenging me to live more for Him and less for me?

PRAYER THOUGHT:

Seek God’s presence in the here and now. Reflect on the past but ask for a fresh outpouring of His Spirit on you today.
