Day 17: Come and Ask

When Solomon became king after the death of his father, David, he inherited more than a throne. He inherited the weight of leading an entire nation. And when God offered him anything he desired, Solomon didn’t ask for wealth or power. He asked for wisdom. That one request revealed the posture of his heart—and God was pleased.

Solomon prayed, “Give your servant a discerning heart,” and God responded with wisdom beyond anyone of his time, along with the riches he never requested. Why? Because Solomon’s request wasn’t self-serving. He asked for what would help him lead well and honor the people he had been entrusted to serve. God honored that motive—and the blessing overflowed.

One of Solomon’s first tests came when two women stood before him, both claiming to be the mother of the same child. With insight from God, Solomon uncovered the truth and restored peace. His wisdom didn’t come from his title or intellect—it flowed from a humble heart that sought God first.

“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong” (1 Kings 3:9 NIV).

God’s promise to provide wisdom is a steady assurance. When we’re faced with complex decisions or unclear paths, He invites us to come and ask. And when we do, He responds with wisdom that brings clarity, confidence, and peace.
