7 Simple Ways to Love Your Son or Daughter

ՕՐ 3 7-ից

Day Three "Parenting On Your Knees" Scripture: Jeremiah 29:12; Mark 11:24; Philippians 4:6 (Lisa) Our son had his head down in his studies, so he didn’t see me coming. I made it a point to walk by him and quietly place my hand on his head, staying silent so as not to interrupt him. He stopped what he was doing and looked up at me warmly and sweetly. Then he said, “You were blessing me, weren’t you, Mom.” More a statement than a question. Yes. Yes, I was. I’d done it so many times that I didn’t need to say anything. He already knew. I usually offer a word of blessing, sometimes only a simple “Bless you, my son,” and sometimes I’m more specific. It’s amazing how powerful that small whisper and slight touch can be in a child’s life. Maybe you’ve never done anything like this before. Honestly, it’s really quite easy. All it takes is a few short words as you gently place your hand on your child’s head or shoulder. Then watch how his heart swells and he stands a bit taller. Whether you’re a seasoned parent or a brand-new one, let me encourage you that your blessings and your private prayers will have a powerful impact on your children—both now and for the rest of their lives. Before becoming a mom, I never would have guessed what parenting would do for my prayer life. My preconceived notion was that parenting was about making peanut butter sandwiches and tucking kids into bed at night. When I did call out to God, I thought it was just me . You know, like I wasn’t doing this mothering business right or I wasn’t quite enough or . . . something . Then I saw how God calls each of us as parents to prayer—sometimes desperate prayers! As we read in Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” From that place of dependence, we can speak blessing and love over our kids. Letting them know we are praying for them is one of the best gifts we can give. You’ll find that some of your best parenting happens when you’re humbly down on your knees. Lord, teach me to pray for [name(s)]. Guide me in hope and remind me of my dependence on You. Amen.
