In 1 Samuel 20 David and Jonathan made a covenant to care for each other's descendants. Many years have passed. Jonathan is dead. David is king. He has ascended to power and united the tribes of Israel and defeated countless enemies. Rather than focusing on his own wealth and power David remembers his promise and shows compassion to Jonathan's long forgotten son Mephibosheth.
