Letting Go

Knowing how to forgive someone and then letting the offense go is instrumental for building strong families. If we don’t do this, God can’t forgive us and our family can’t grow in love.

Do you have a family member who regularly holds on to a grudge after they claim to have forgiven you? You talk about the problem with them and think you have it finally resolved, and then one day they bring it up again! That’s tiring.

Don’t be guilty of offering forgiveness but then holding the offense over their head. Teach your children the proper method for letting things go, which is practicing true forgiveness. When you forgive, really forgive! You can encourage this with your children when they are at a very young age. When you hear them say they forgive someone, but then later hear them bring up that issue again, confront them. By doing this, you will help them develop healthy habits in the area of forgiveness. This will be pleasing to God and of great value to them.

Parenting Principle

Teach your children that forgiveness means not holding on but letting go.

Points to Ponder

*What offense have you recently overlooked and how did you do it?

*What good habits have you taught your children in this area?

*What offense should you let go right now in order to help your family?
