1, 2, and 3 John and Jude are once again general epistles, written to broader audiences rather than specific communities. John is widely believed to be on the closer disciples of Jesus, and Jude is also considered to be the half-brother of Jesus. Both 1 John and Jude address the increasing threat of false teachings about Jesus Christ, particularly that he wasn’t fully human. 2 John picks up this theme and invites its readers to keep their focus on Jesus. 3 John is actually the shortest book in the New Testament and was an encouragement to faithfulness to the work of God.
