More Than Words - the Transforming Power of Prayer

DAY 4 OF 14

Go Boldly Before the Lord

Remember the scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion go to see the Wizard to ask for help? They were all frightened out of their minds and could barely speak before the great and powerful Wizard of Oz. When the Wizard yelled at them not to come back unless they brought him the witch’s broom, they ran out as fast as they could! God is far more powerful than any wizard, and yet the bible says that we are to go before Him boldly! How can we go before Him boldly?

In Hebrews 4:16 (NIV), the Bible tells us, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” That doesn’t mean to pray like the Pharisees did to impress others. Instead, God wants us to come to Him in the same way that a child would come to his dad to ask for something. In Romans 8:16-17 (NIV), we read, “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…" So, as His children, we can go boldly before Him because of our relationship and because of what Christ did on the cross. We can speak what is on our mind and what is in our heart because we are His children. What happens when a child cries out and asks a parent for help? The parent will do whatever is necessary to comfort that child. God is our heavenly Father, and He is going to support us when we ask Him for help. He will guide us and be with us.

Go boldly before the Lord. Speak to Him like you would speak to your parent. He can take whatever you have to tell Him, even if you are angry, upset, and frustrated. Tell Him what is bothering you. Tell Him what is good in your life and thank Him for that. But also tell Him about what is not so good and ask for His help.

Ask Yourself:

Do I speak boldly to God, believing that He loves me a His child?

About this Plan

More Than Words - the Transforming Power of Prayer

Prayer is more than asking—it’s how we draw near to God, hear His voice, and walk in His peace. Over 14 days, you’ll learn to pray continually, approach God boldly, build a daily rhythm of solitude, use the ACTS framework, praise through pain, “pray your day,” seek wise agreement with others, and trust Jesus with every decision. Come closer as a friend of God—and be changed from the inside out.
