Long Awaited: Prophecies of the Savior's Birth

DAY 2 OF 10

BORN OF A VIRGIN WOMAN

THE SAVIOR WILL BE BORN OF A VIRGIN + BE CALLED IMMANUEL, OR “GOD WITH US” | ISAIAH 7:14

Isaiah prophesied that a virgin woman would give birth to a son called Immanuel, meaning “God with us.” In this prophecy, Isaiah foreshadowed the future hope of Jesus, including Mary’s miraculous virgin conception.

Long before Isaiah’s prophecy, an earlier message from God pointed to Jesus’ arrival. In the garden of Eden, God revealed that the Savior would arrive in human form. When sin entered the world, God stated that there would be enmity between Satan and humanity, but the offspring of a woman would ultimately crush the enemy (Genesis 3:15). This promise was the very first prophecy of Jesus, spoken by God Himself, revealing His plan to send Jesus as the offspring of a woman.

Jesus could have arrived in any form or fashion, like a mighty chariot or a great flash of lightning. Instead, God arrived in the form of a human, fully embodying the true Immanuel, “God with us.”

AN ANGEL REVEALED THAT MARY’S SON WOULD BE CONCEIVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT | LUKE 1:35

Through Mary’s providential conception and birth, the nature of Jesus was revealed to be both fully human and fully divine. The virgin birth serves as a powerful reminder of God’s sovereignty and His ability to bring His plans to fruition through any circumstances.

The virgin birth also underscores the purity and holiness of Jesus, setting Him apart as perfect and sinless. Jesus had to be without blame to fulfill His role as the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity.

From the very beginning, God kept His promise that He would send a Savior to defeat the enemy. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He defeated death, the most permanent consequence of sin. Jesus offers the gift of eternal life for all who believe in Him as their Savior (John 3:16).

This Christmas, remember the humanity of Christ and His incredible desire to restore His relationship with His people.
