Long Awaited: Prophecies of the Savior's Birth

DAY 10 OF 10

KNOWN FOR WISDOM

THE FUTURE KING WILL HAVE UNDERSTANDING + PEACE | ISAIAH 11:1-2

Isaiah prophesied that a descendant from Jesse’s line, the family of David, would emerge as a “new branch” of great significance. The Holy Spirit would fill this descendant with wisdom, understanding, counsel, and might. This future leader would have deep knowledge and a heart that delighted in honoring the Lord.

Isaiah’s description of this king foreshadowed Jesus, who would bring peace to all people and fulfill God’s redemptive promise.

EVEN AS A CHILD, JESUS KNEW + TAUGHT GOD’S WORD | LUKE 2:40-47

Each year, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus traveled to Jerusalem for the annual Passover celebration. When Jesus was twelve, Mary and Joseph could not find Him on their way back to Nazareth. They searched for three days before finding Him in the temple, speaking with the teachers and amazing them with His knowledge and understanding. Jesus explained that He was in His Father’s house. Even as a child, Jesus found comfort in the temple, God’s dwelling place in Jerusalem.

JESUS AMAZED THE CROWDS WITH WISDOM + UNDERSTANDING | MATTHEW 5-7

Jesus shared a message that contained His most well-known teachings and principles, commonly known as the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus’ teaching highlighted the upside-down nature of God’s kingdom, reversing the roles established on Earth and honoring the humble and lowly. When Jesus finished speaking, the crowd was astonished with His teaching, knowing that He spoke with the authority of God.

This Christmas, take time to explore the countercultural teachings of Jesus and His message of hope and humility.
