30 Days With the Psalms

DAY 3 OF 30

Pray when trouble comes

“Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God!” (Psalm 3:8 ESV).

David wrote this Psalm in a very difficult situation. His own son tried to take his throne. That was both shameful and dangerous for David. He had to flee the royal city, and bear people’s mockery along with his personal disillusionment.

This was not the first time David’s life was in danger. He had often experienced how God rescued him from his enemies. Now he purposefully reminds himself how God answered him in those situations. And he cries out anew: “Save me, O my God!”

David knows that God can help, and that He is willing to do so. Therefore, he puts all his trust in the Lord.

How do you respond when you face difficulties? When you feel overwhelmed, do you cry out to the Lord for help? You have very good reason to, for God promises in Psalm 50:15 (ESV): “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

Do you believe that is true?
